It's a Wonderland kind of night! July 22nd continued...

After our incredible day in Roatan, hanging out with sloths, and monkeys, tasting chocolate and rum, and then spending a few hours at the beach, it was time to make our way back to the ship.

Since we wanted to spend most of our time at the beach in the water, the kids, Keith and I didn't really eat lunch, although my parents did.  We just got a little snack while we were there.  Once we got back on board, we made a quick stop at the Boardwalk where Alex and Megan got some "dogs" at the Dog House.  Keith went to El Loco Fresh for a quesadilla and I decided I would wait for dinner to eat.  Both of those are included dining options and great for those in between times when you want some sort of snack type meal. Alex and Keith especially took advantage of both places throughout the cruise!

Don't mind Alex stuffing his face - that was done especially for the camera. I'm pretty sure his goal was to see just how much he could stuff in his mouth at one time so I wouldn't take his picture.

Tonight we have reservations at Wonderland for dinner. Wonderland is definitely the most unique dining venue on any of the cruises I've been on.  It's described as

"An intimate restaurant within an edgy and surreal dining environment, Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine uses color, scale and reflection to infuse elements of surprise and delight throughout the entire dining experience."

and

"Venture down the rabbit hole and ask yourself: What is real and what is imagined? At Wonderland, our chefs twist their culinary kaleidoscopes to invent an elaborate dreamscape of never-before-seen fare. The story begins as you open the menu and find your element – Sun, Ice, Fire, Water, Earth and Dreams-each with a selection of small or shareable fantasies. And magical elixirs that whisper “Drink me” amidst amorphous mirrors, mystery and sensory surprises. The intention of it all becomes more certain with each maddeningly delicious bite."

I'd done my research, so I knew what to expect, but would I like the food? I'm a pretty picky eater.  But everyone else? They really had no idea what to expect and how do you even explain a concept like this? Well, off we went!

First thing that is unique is that you get a picture frame for your menu, that you can't read.  You get it with a paint brush and a little cup of water.  You paint it to reveal the menu.

The nice thing about dining with a party of 6 is that instead of ordering from the menu, our server brought us a sampling of most of the items on the menu, served family style. This way we could try almost everything!

This is from the "ICE" selection - it's the Citrus Seas, with spicy tuna

This is the Cotton Candy Cosmo - very delicious!

These are from the "Fire" selection - the The Bird's Nest

The Crispy Crab Cones

We enjoyed all of the appetizers!  Then we were brought out a selection of entrees.

They were all good, although we realized after we left that our server didn't pour the sauces over the ones that were supposed to have them, which would have made them much better!

The highlight of the meal for sure was the desserts! Wonderland has an Alice in Wonderland theme and the Mad Hatter wanders around stopping at tables doing his Mad Hatter thing. One of the times he stopped by our table was to deliver our desserts. The pictures are blurry - I really wasn't expecting him when he showed up! Singing to Megan for her birthday, which was only a couple of days before our dinner!

When the hot chocolate is poured over the chocolate it melts revealing the ice cream inside.  It's amazingly delicious!

We all were really glad we had this dining experience. And it definitely is an experience!  Afterward, my parents, Megan and I went to see the musical on board, Hairspray!

Neither Megan nor I have seen Hairspray live, so this was a treat for us! It was a fantastic performance! So full of energy!  We all really enjoyed it!

It was definitely a full day today ~ tomorrow we would be in Costa Maya.  A new port for us, and we were looking forward to that!
